McArthur Ridge was initially established in 2002 with our first planting of 15 Hectares, this was followed by 72 Hectares in 2003 and a further 73 Hectares in 2004. Our first vintage was produced in 2006, a year before the final 15 Hectares were planted.
The vineyards are sited on an elevated plateau, planted across gentle northern slopes to capture maximum warmth. Set at altitude, the Alexandra basin is probably the southernmost Pinot Noir producing area on the planet; a perfect environment due to its pristine cool climate.
McArthur Ridge wines are made under the expert hand of Chief Winemaker, Matt Connell.
Since arriving, Matt has earned multiple accolades including winning ‘New Zealand Red Wine of Show’ and ‘Pinot Noir Trophy’ at the International Wine Competition London, and most recently the trophy for ‘Best Pinot Noir In The World’ at the Decanter World Wine Awards London, an absolutely stunning achievement!
