It has been 25 years since Nigel, after a career as a creative director, decided to spend a year in New Zealand to find a new direction. The result of that year was the purchase of vineyard land at Cornish Point and then, a year after he returned to the UK, joining a very young wine estate in Bannockburn called Felton Road.
Now 25 years on, he, with winemaker Blair Walter in partnership, directs a wine estate that has been in the World’s 50 Most Admired Wine Brands for 7 years, 6 of them in the top 20. It is still tiny, biodynamic, a B corp and, as a member of International Wineries for Climate Action, is determined to become one of the first wineries in the world that is genuinely at carbon zero without offsetting.
When not at the house in Wanaka, he can normally be found in his workshop in Devon UK where Ihe makes acoustic and semi acoustic guitars and the odd bit of furniture.
