Larry McKenna might easily be described as the Prince of Martinborough Pinot Noir.
Graduating from Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1976 with a Diploma in Agriculture he has four decades of wine making experience.
In 1986 Larry left Delegat’s Auckland to take up the position of CEO/Winemaker at Martinborough Vineyard in the Wairarapa.
Since 1999 he has been MD/Winemaker establishing Escarpment Vineyard. Retiring in 2022, winegrowing is the new role, looking after the Ma Maison Vineyard Martinborough.
Larry takes a collaborative approach to wine making and believes in sharing his knowledge and understanding with fellow winemakers.
Recently Larry has been inducted into the NZ Wine Hall of Fame and received further recognition as a recipient of the George Fistonich medal for services to the NZ Wine Industry.
He was made a fellow of the NZ Wine Industry in 2016.
